Functionality was a priority from the start of the project. The layout of the space, on floor -1 of the Metropolis Building, was carefully designed to promote fluid circulation and optimize the use of every square meter.
With 68 formal and informal workstations, the diversity of work areas allows the team to choose between more formal areas or standing desks, which are more informal and dynamic.
The inclusion of elements such as phone booths for private calls and informal work areas offers flexibility, creating a space adapted to the different needs of the team. Meanwhile, the meeting rooms, were inspired by iconic landmarks from the city of Porto, offering a unique connection between the workplace and the local culture.
Each room is named after an emblematic landmark of the city, such as “Clérigos”, “Ribeira” or “Foz”, and the interior decoration reflects this theme with details that allude to the history and architecture of these areas. The walls are adorned with personalized wallpapers with illustrations that capture the essence of each location, making meetings a visually engaging experience rooted in the spirit of Porto.
Additionally, the amphitheater, with capacity for 40 people, becomes the main meeting point for brainstorming sessions, team meetings or corporate events. The design of this space clearly evokes Japanese tradition, with steps that imitate tatami and the presence of typical Japanese flowers such as the cherry tree and camellia.
This modern office isn’t just for work. It was also designed to promote employee well-being, with areas for relaxation and collaboration. In the corporate kitchenette, a relaxed space has been developed where employees can share meals around a central table, in an environment that encourages conviviality. This area was designed to be an informal meeting point where the team can relax and strengthen bonds outside of the formal working environment.
The reading area offers a secluded and quiet space, ideal for those who need a moment of introspection or a break between meetings. Furthermore, lockers and storage spaces have been created, ensuring that all employees have a place to store their belongings in an organized and safe manner.
A lounge was also designed, with a mural displaying photographs of each member of the staff, highlighting the central role they play in the company’s success. This detail not only humanizes the corporate environment, but also reinforces the sense of belonging and individual appreciation by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
The outdoor area of the office was designed to be an extension of the serene and functional environment inside. Integrating natural elements and minimalist lines, the outdoor space reflects the simplicity and harmony typical of Japanese culture with the presence of landscaped areas that promote a sense of tranquility.
This outdoor space not only offers an invigorating break for employees, but also serves as an informal meeting point, ideal for unwinding or moments of socialization outside of the structured office setting.
The combination of landscape design and sustainable materials makes the outdoor area both a haven for relaxation and an extension of the project’s aesthetic concept.
This project stands out as a milestone in the way we design commercial spaces, being both a tribute to Japanese cultural heritage and a progressive vision of the future of workspaces.
